Snap, Smile & Celebrate KL: Inside the VisitKL Augmented Reality Activation Experience
Where tradition meets tech — a joyful blend of culture, innovation, and music in an unforgettable AR photobooth experience for all Malaysians (and beyond). An interactive AR photobooth by VisitKL where users snap photos with multiracial friends in traditional attire — backed by Datuk Siti Nurhaliza’s voice. Sometimes, all it takes is one photo to remind us how beautifully diverse – and united – Kuala Lumpur really is.

It started with a smile.
A user lifted their phone, scanned a code, and suddenly — they weren’t alone. On their screen appeared a group of friendly faces, dressed in Malay baju kurung, Indian sarees, Chinese cheongsams, and more. Strangers? No. They felt like old friends.
They posed together. Laughed a little.
And just as they hit the shutter, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza’s voice floated in — her voice wrapping the moment in warmth, pride, and a touch of nostalgia.
This wasn’t just a photo. It was a feeling.
The VisitKL Augmented Reality Activation Booth wasn’t made to impress.
It was made to connect — to let people experience the soul of the city: its people, traditions, unity, and yes, its magic.
Among the first to try it was none other than YBhg. Dato' Seri TPr (Dr.) Maimunah binti Mohd Sharif, the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur herself.
She smiled wide as she posed alongside her digital companions — a perfect moment of joy, pride, and connection, captured in the most modern yet meaningful way.
In just 3 days, more than 450 people joined in, many returning for a second or third round. The platform lit up with over 20,000 interactions, hundreds of smiles, and one unifying soundtrack that reminded everyone what Kuala Lumpur stands for.
This wasn’t about technology for tech’s sake.
It was about bringing people together, letting them see themselves in the spirit of Kuala Lumpur — a city that’s diverse, vibrant, and proud.
We’re incredibly proud at NOVA to be part of this journey — showing how innovation and culture can dance together, one photo at a time.#NovaMovesMinds
